PARTENZA: Loc. Fey, comune di Perloz (Aosta) (1135 m).
Da Pont-Saint-Martin si sale seguendo le indicazioni per Perloz. La strada è stretta, con molti tornanti ed un bel panorama. Si attraversano diversi villaggi: Bousc Daré, Plan de Brun, Perloz, Marine. Dopo questo abitato si incrocia la strada per Ruine: bisogna proseguire a sinistra senza imboccarla. Successivamente si arriva all'abitato del Crest: occorre svoltare nel tornante a sinistra senza proseguire (la strada dritta che va al Crest è a fondo cieco). Poco dopo un cartello indica di proseguire a destra per arrivare al Col Finestra. Lungo la strada un nuovo cartello segnala la partenza di una mulattiera diretta al colle, tuttavia, poiche' in quel punto non è agevole parcheggiare, consigliamo di proseguire fino a Fey Dessus.

PERCORSO: Lasciata l'auto nel piazzale, si prosegue a piedi fino al Pesse' (45 min, m 1307). Dal Pesse', in prossimita' di una croce in legno, parte la mulattiera ben segnalata in direzione del colle gia' in vista. Rapidamente il sentiero si inoltra nel bosco e poco dopo aver incontrato una baita diroccata si giunge ad un bivio: si va a destra, mentre il sentiero di sinistra conduce alla Croix Corma (come indicato da un cartello). Dopo 5 minuti si è al colle m 1671 (1 h e 15 min dal Pesse', 2h da Fey). Dal colle il sentiero prosegue a sinistra, passando nei pressi di alcune baite diroccate ed attraversando il versante nord occidentale della Croix Corma fino ad arrivare alla località Le Cou (1 h dal colle, m 1374). Si tratta di un alpeggio ventilato in cui sorgono vecchi edifici militari in rovina. Seguendo il sentiero che scende a sinistra delle baite si arriva ad Albard, mentre proseguendo a destra si scende ad Arnad. Questo sentiero è il tracciato di una strada militare e più a valle, in prossimità del Santuario di Machaby, si incontrano altre fortificazioni in rovina. Machaby si trova a 724 metri sul livello del mare (1h e 30 dal Col Finestra). Una mulattiera ben selciata conduce alla strada asfaltata che va ad Arnad (1h da Machaby).
NOTE: Il sentiero che da Arnad sale a Le Cou per poi scendere alla localita' Albard venne percorso da Napoleone Bonaparte per aggirare il forte di Bard ed entrare in Piemonte con le sue truppe. Napoleone pernottò ad Arnad, a Le Cou e ad Albard.
Il Santuario di Machaby, dedicato a Notre Dame des Neiges, risale al 1503, il campanile al 1723 ed il portico al 1735. Gli edifici circostanti servivano in passato ad accogliere i numerosi pellegrini che ve si recavano.
In prossimità del Santuario si trova una casa che costituiva il luogo di incontro tra partigiani valdostani e biellesi, bruciata dai fasciti e successivamente ricostruita.

From Pont-Saint-Martin follow the signs to Perloz. The road is narrow, with several hairpin bends and offers a lot of spectacular views. You'll come across some villages: Bousc Daré, Plan de Brun, Perloz, Marine. After this last one, you'll find the road to Ruine: turn left without taking it. Then you'll arrive to Crest: turn left again and do not take the direction of the village. A little bit ahead you'll find a sign telling to keep the right to go to the Finestra pass. Going on, a new sign indicates the starting point of the footpath to the pass. Nevertheless, since it is not easy to park there, we suggest continuing up to the Fey Dessus village.

PATH: Leaving the car in the square, you have to continue on foot up to the Pesse' pasture (45 min, 1307 m). The well-marked footpath towards the pass starts from Pesse', near a wooden cross. The track suddenly enters in the wood and after a ruined hut you'll come to a junction: turn right because the path on the left leads to the Croix Corma (like a sign tells you). In 5 minutes you're on the saddle (1 h and 15 minutes from Pesse', 2 h from Fey).Leaving the pass, the track proceeds on the left, bordering a few ruined huts and crossing the northwest slope of the Croix Corma mount until the fields of Le Cou (1 h from the pass, 1374 m). It's a ventilated alpine pasture with several old and ruined military buildings. A path on the left of the village descends to Albard while keeping the right you'll go to Arnad. This path lies on a former military road and later, near the Machaby sanctuary, you'll come across more abandoned military fortifications. Machaby is at 724 meters above the see level (1 h e 30 minutes from Finestra pass). A well stone paved track leads to the asphalt road to Arnad (1 h from Machaby).
NOTES: The track going from Arnad to Le Cou and descending to Albard has been used by Napoleon Bonaparte to move in Piemonte with his troops bypassing the Bard fortress.Napoleon spent some nights in Arnad, Le Cou and in Albard.
The Machaby sanctuary, devoted to Notre Dame des Neiges, has been build in 1503. The bell tower and the porch have been made in 1723 and 1735. All surrounding buildings were used in the past to receive and accommodate the large number of pilgrims.
Near the sanctuary there is also a house used in the past as meeting point by partisans from the Aosta valley and the Biella region. It has been burned by Fascists and latterly rebuild again.
